Chip Romer and Jennifer Luzzi Killed in High-Speed Boat Crash on Lake Havasu

LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. — The Lake Havasu City community is mourning the deaths of motorsport champion Charles “Chip” Romer, 65, and respected real estate professional Jennifer Luzzi, 59, following a high-speed boat crash Saturday evening on Lake Havasu.

According to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at approximately 7:08 p.m. just north of Cattail Cove State Park.

Deputies responding to the scene found a Douglas Marine boat overturned on land, with two people unresponsive near the vessel. Both Romer and Luzzi, who were residents of Lake Havasu City, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation Underway

The sheriff’s office said the preliminary investigation indicates the boat was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck a large peninsula.

The impact caused the boat to become airborne before it landed in a boat-in campsite north of the initial collision point.
